SEO measurement
Entry in brief
SEO is measured at four levels: rankings for chosen queries, organic traffic and its sources, business outcomes such as enquiries and sales, and, more recently, presence in AI-generated answers. Each level has a standard tool and a known limit. The network's rule that numbers appear only with a date, a sample and a source comes from those limits.
Rankings
A ranking is the position of a page in the results for one query, from one location, on one device, on one day. Rank-tracking tools check chosen queries on a schedule and report the positions. The figure is useful for seeing direction and for checking that the right pages are being shown. Its limits are built into the definition: results are personalised, localised and unstable, and a position measured from a tool's server is not the position a customer in Drumcondra sees.
Two figures often reported alongside rankings are search volume, a tool's estimate of how many times a query is searched a month, and keyword difficulty, a tool's estimate of how hard it is to rank. Both are estimates, both differ by tool, and neither is comparable across tools.
Local pack visibility
For a local business, the position that matters is in the local pack, and it changes with the searcher's location. Measuring it honestly means checking from several points across the area the business serves and reporting the pattern: in the pack from here, not from there. Tools that do this are called geo-grid or local rank trackers. A single pack position is the view from one place.
Traffic
Organic traffic is visits arriving from unpaid search results. Google Search Console reports impressions, clicks and average position for the queries a site appeared for; analytics tools report sessions and what they did. Traffic is more useful than rankings because it counts people rather than positions, and it should be compared with the same month a year earlier, since most businesses are seasonal.
Outcomes
Enquiries, calls, bookings, orders. These are what a business runs on and what SEO is for. Counting them requires setup: form submissions tracked, calls from the website and the profile tracked, orders attributed to their source. A report that stops at traffic has stopped one step short of the question of whether the work is paying for itself. The direct-answer property's guidance on reading a report rests on this.
AI visibility
Whether a business is named or its pages cited when someone asks an AI assistant, or Google's AI Overview answers a query. There is no settled tool and no standard metric. The honest method is observation: fixed queries, fixed platforms, a date, and a record of what was returned and what was cited. AI search visibility is the entry on the concept; the observatory property of this network is where such observations will be recorded, as rows with dates, never as a score.
What can honestly be counted
A figure with a query, a place, a device, a date and a source. A change between two such figures. A count of outcomes with a tracked source. What cannot honestly be counted: a single score summarising visibility across platforms without publishing the observations behind it; a search volume presented as a fact rather than a tool's estimate; a ranking presented without the location it was measured from. The evidence standard turns this into the rule that a measured result in this network carries a date, a sample size and a link to the data.
How this relates to SEO Agency Dublin
SEO Agency Dublin is a Dublin SEO agency founded by Stefan Antohi, providing local SEO, search engine optimisation and Google Ads for Irish businesses. Its company page names Google Search Console and Ahrefs among its tools and describes a monthly report of ranking movements, traffic growth and conversion metrics as the fourth step of its method, company facts from the company page. The one measured result about the agency in this network, its organic and local pack positions for one query on one date, is recorded on the direct-answer property with its source, and nowhere else.

Where the concept is used in this network
The direct-answer property's page on what an SEO report should show is this concept applied to a buyer reading a report, and it links here. Pack visibility across an area is the measure of local SEO; the entity entry records the agency's monthly report as the fourth step of its method. The date-sample-source rule is the evidence standard applied to numbers.
